August 27th:

Like mother
Like Daughter

Mom is feeling better - first time in the big field!

August 20: Getting some leg stretching time with mom.

Mom is still a little sore due to a low level infection she developed after retaining the placenta longer than was preferred.
She is on antiobiotics and on the mend. :)

August 11/12th: Born around Midnight

It’s a girl!!!!

We are so proud of mama Onyx. She has delivered a beautiful little girl!

11 months - 30-58 inches : Size comparison: Foal :) : Weight 66-132 lbs

Fun Facts: Foal may roll from their back to their side in the last month, making it difficult for an exam to predict what position it will be in. Most common position is laying on their back with their head and forelimbs flexed.

10 months - 28-52 inches : Size comparison: Newborn Jersey Calf : Weight 55-99 lbs

Fun Facts: Hind limb hooves have usually reached the uterine horn tip. Since the hind limbs are encased in the horse, the horse will move with your foal as they move their limbs around.

Onyx had her round of immunizations recommended for “almost due” mothers. She was NOT amused. It took both MJ and Lynzy to hold her for the vet to complete the shots needed - We love our stubborn opinionated mare!

9 months - 24-35 inches : Size comparison: Dalmatian : Weight 37-44 lbs

Fun Facts: Developing fine hair on the whole body and longer mane and tail hair can be seen.

8 months - 20-28 inches : Size comparison: Beagle : Weight 18 - 33 lbs

Fun Facts: Foal is developing hair on it’s poll, ears, chin muzzle and throat.

7 months - 14-28 inches : Size comparison: Raccoon : Weight

Fun Facts: Mane and tail are now evident, the growth rate will now become very rapid in the coming few months.

6 months - Size 10-25 inches : Size comparison: Groundhog

Fun Facts: Starting to develop the mane and tail. Likely that the foal has moved into a head to the rear position. The liver is about 5% of the foals total body weight at this stage.

5 Month - Size 8-14 inches : Size comparison: A Rabbit

Fun Facts: The foal’s eyelashes can be seen and its mammary glands begin to enlarge. Foal continues to have less space to move around but remains active in lace.

4 months - Size 5-9 inches : Size comparison: A Kitten

Fun Facts: Foal is growing fine hair on the muzzle, lips, chin and eyelashes. Foal is growning larger and cannot roam around as freely. Still active but movements are becoming more restricted.

2 Month Ultrasound: 10/27/23

Size 2-3 inches : Size comparison: A Caterpillar

Fun Facts: Developing facial features such as ears, eyelids, and nostrils. Heartbeat detectable by Day 42.
(We could see it, we have a video where you can see the beat!)

3 months - Size 3-6 inches : Size comparison: A Chipmunk

Fun Facts: The hooves are starting to develop. The foal is active and moving around an average of 5 times an hr!
